Common Questions

What cities are in your service area?
I serve the greater Albuquerque metro area and the East Mountains. This includes regular stops in Rio Rancho, Corrales, Bernalillo, Placitas, Cedar Crest, Tijeras, Sandia Park, Moriarty, Edgewood, Bosque Farms, Peralta, and Los Lunas. If you are located slightly outside these boundaries, feel free to reach out to check availability.
Can you tune an old neglected piano?
Most of the time, yes. If a piano hasn't been serviced in several years it usually requires a "pitch correction" (a quick structural pass to pull the tension back up) before a fine tuning can be performed. In the rare event that a piano is structurally untunable due to mechanical failure I DO NOT charge a service fee just for looking at it.
Can you fix issues like sticking keys?
Absolutely. Pianos are complex mechanical systems and minor issues like a sticking key or squeaky pedal are completely normal. Many of these adjustments can be handled during a routine tuning visit at no additional charge. If extensive part replacements or major repairs ARE needed I will always provide a clear upfront quote first.
Are you okay with household pets?
Of course! Pianos are a central part of the home and so are your pets. I am a true animal lover—both cats and dogs—and am completely comfortable sharing space with your furry friends while I work. There is no need to lock them away unless they are overly anxious or prone to getting underfoot around delicate tools.
How long does it take and how often?
A standard tuning appointment takes about 90 minutes from start to finish. For most household pianos, getting tuned at least once a year is ideal to keep the string tension stable. Pianos in high-use environments, homes with heavy climate fluctuations, or brand-new instruments may benefit from being serviced twice a year.
What is the best way to schedule?
Sending a text message is the absolute simplest and most efficient way to coordinate. It allows you to send details or photos of your piano on your own schedule and we can lock down an appointment time entirely through text—completely bypassing the hassle of online booking platforms or endless games of phone tag.
How does our climate affect my piano?
Our altitude and seasonal humidity shifts can wreak havoc on pianos. When the seasons change the wood in your piano swells and contracts. This alters string tension and pulls the instrument out of tune. Having serviced pianos across New Mexico for decades I use time-tested techniques designed to withstand these local swings.
What is the Piano Life Saver System?
The Piano Life Saver is a climate control system designed to stabilize the humidity inside your piano. Given our extreme dry spells and seasonal swamp cooler use it is your absolute best insurance policy. As a certified installer I recommend these systems for pianos with tuning instability and for protection from dryness issues.
